Several outlets in Habour Centre, Suva, were forced to close yesterday because of a sewage leakage.

Michelle Khan, owner of Aussie Price Fighter, said her shop would close for the next three days because they could not get rid of the contaminated water and foul smell.

Ms Khan, who also owns two other businesses within the building, said all three shops were affected by the spillage.

She claimed a lack of proper provision for wastewater disposal led to the frequent flooding of her shop.

“The problem is, they put the food court upstairs, but they made no proper provision for the wastewater,” Ms Khan said.

She says she has not been able to resolve the issue with the property management company FNPF despite numerous calls and emails.

“On Saturday, midday, we saw the ceiling tiles were wet in certain places, so we called the building owners, Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), but nobody answered.”

Ms Khan said the building had been renovated three times, yet the drainage and wastewater pipes had not been addressed.

Questions sent to FNPF remained unanswered when this edition went to press.
