The Fiji Muslim League (FML) has reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government to help residents of the Nabua squatter settlement in identifying relocation options and sites.

This, according to Minister Maciu Naulumisa, who said the ministry met the general secretary of the FML to discuss further on the matter.

Last week FML released a public notice that they would begin legal proceedings to remove about 200 families occupying their property.

Yesterday, Mr Naulumisa said the league had given its reassurance in supporting the ministry in the relocation process.

“I have met with the GS, and he has given us the assurance that they are going to work with the ministry to find out ways to relocate them,” he said.

“It’s plenty of them, and it’s a work in progress for now.

“First we need to identify the land; that’s what we have been trying, with other landlords and the lands department as well, if they can give us some green spaces and some available land so we can relocate these families.”
