Leadership Fiji, McDonalds ink MOU

Vuvale Restaurants Fiji, parent company of McDonalds Fiji will sponsor Leadership Fiji’s ‘Leading with Purpose’ event scheduled for October 25.

This after Vuvale Restaurants inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Leadership Fiji for the next three years.

McDonald’s Fiji managing director Marc McElrath said they were thrilled at the prospect.

“It is indeed an honor and a privilege to partner with Leadership Fiji for such an important event for our leaders, our country is going through some interesting changes with people and events such as “leading with purpose” assist in training and bringing our new and younger generation of leaders to the forefront,” he said in a press statement this week.

Leadership Fiji’s CEO Sharyne Fong said they were “delighted and grateful for McDonald Fiji’s support and we welcome them to our family of partners.”

“Part of the funds from McDonalds partnership for this year will be allocated towards our Leadership Fiji 1 day event held in October,” she said.

McDonald’s first opened in Fiji on May 1, 1996, in Nadi. The second restaurant opened in Suva in May 1997, the third opened in Laucala Bay in July 2002 and the fourth restaurant opened in Lautoka in December 2015.

The four restaurants are serviced by a distribution centre that imports food and paper products into Fiji mainly from its global McDonald’s supplier in New Zealand. McDonald’s Fiji is owned and operated by Marc McElrath and currently employs more than 300 staff.

Leadership Fiji is an independent, non-partisan, non-aligned entity that has been in existence since 2001 which allows its participants to explore their own values, philosophies, prejudices, and beliefs through a variety of issues offered by the program. Leadership Fiji intends to develop the organization further, by taking stock of the past 22 years’ achievements, successes, and lessons, and using these as a launching pad into a new era for Leadership Fiji. Our strategic vision and ambition are to establish a Leadership Academy and Centre offering values-based leadership courses and programs for Fiji, and the Pacific.
