Lawyer with Fijian link charged in Australia with gang related offences

A Sydney solicitor with links to Fiji who was seriously wounded in a Sydney gang ambush in May has been hit with a series of charges, including kidnapping, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and directing a criminal group.

25 year old Sylvan Singh was shot during a targeted shooting in Granville on May 25 which killed Alameddine criminal gang associate Dawood Zakaria.

Mr Singh survived the attack and was taken to hospital with multiple wounds.

Police have now charged Mr Singh with take or detain person in company with intent to ransom, wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two counts of knowingly direct activities of a criminal group, The Daily Telegraph reported.

He was also charged with supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, supply prohibited drug greater than indictable quantity and supply prohibited drug of commercial quantity.

He is set to appear before Liverpool Local Court.
