A SENIOR police officer was accused of accepting a $10,000 bribe to set free three men who appeared in the High Court in Suva accused of killing Afroz Khan.
This was revealed when Edward Nand, Semi Naisevunivai, and Viliame Vulawalu appeared in court yesterday. They are alleged to have held Khan captive in a van while demanding a $10,000 ransom from his wife, instructing her to leave the money inside a rubbish bin near Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
When the ransom was not delivered, the men allegedly assaulted Khan and drowned him in a river in Naitasiri sometime between November 27 and December 27, 2024.
Prosecutor Unaisi Ratukalou confirmed a police investigation on the bribery allegation is underway, with Nand as the complainant, and requested 14 days to probe the bribery claims to determine their impact on the case.
The case has been adjourned to February 20.
The men faced Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu yesterday.
