With less than a week away before the two top football clubs in the country battle it out in the first round of the 2024 Pillay Garments Champion v Champion series, Lautoka is confident of their chances against Ba.

Former Suva mentor Babs Khan has been appointed as the interim coach to guide the Blues into the series which will be hosted at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.

Khan was appointed as the new coach after an executive meeting last week.

“The team is confident of its chances, and we will play to our level best,” said Lautoka Football Association president Shalendra Prasad.

He said they would not take Ba lightly as they defeated Lautoka, who had a full set of first-choice players in the IDC final last year.

“Ba came out victorious in that final and they will definitely give us a good run, and anything is possible in 90 minutes of football.”

Prasad added so far, there had been no new additions to the squad during the Fiji Football pre-season transfer window.

“There have been no new additions as of now in the squad.”

The Blues last tasted victory in the CVC in 2017, where they defeated Ba by one-nil in the first leg while the team played to a nil-all draw in the second leg.

The Blues won the Digicel Fiji Premier League last season while the Men-in-Black is the defending Inter District Championship (IDC) winner.

The first leg will be played this Sunday at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.
