Lautoka High Court staff member charged over court burglary

A staff member of the Criminal Registry at the Lautoka High Court has been charged in connection with a break-in at the court premises last week.

Police confirm that the 31-year-old accused has been charged with one count of Conspiracy to Commit the Offence of Burglary.

He is alleged to have conspired with others to break into the High Court building with the intention of stealing items, including cash and exhibits.

It is alleged that he stole cash that amounted to about $50,000 in local and foreign currency.

The accused was produced in court and has been remanded at the Natabua Remand Centre, with a bail ruling expected today.

Police say the search is continuing for the other individual or individuals involved in the burglary, whose identities are already known to investigators.
