Lautoka Football Club continued their impressive run in the Extra Supermarket Premier League with a solid 2-0 victory over Tavua in their round 14 encounter at Churchill Park yesterday.
The men in blue made a strong start, dominating the first 45 minutes with a well-structured and disciplined game plan that repeatedly broke through Tavua’s defensive line. Lautoka’s early pressure paid off when Veleni Nasorewa slotted in the opening goal to give the home side a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Tavua came out with renewed energy in the second half and managed to hold Lautoka scoreless for the first 30 minutes. Their defensive efforts were commendable, and they even had a few opportunities of their own, but failed to capitalise in front of goal.
Lautoka eventually broke through again with Mohammed Shazil Ali scoring the second goal, sealing the win for the hosts to the delight of the home supporters.
Following the match, Lautoka FC president Shalendra Prasad said the team used the match to prepare for the upcoming Battle of the Giants tournament.
“Our game against Tavua was our preparation for the BOG tournament. We fielded a lot of new players to test their strengths so we can choose the best 22 players for the BOG,” Prasad said.
With this win, Lautoka maintains their strong position in the league and builds momentum ahead of the prestigious tournament.
