Laqai waits for FRU ruling

NADROGA Rugby halfback Samu Laqai has been stood down by Fiji Rugby Union.

Laqai was prevented from playing in the first Farebrother challenge against Suva last weekend after he was cited in the final of the Skipper Cup by citing commissioner Sitiveni Kunaika.

Laqai is understood to have been cited for a dangerous tackle during the game by Kunaika.

Kunaika said he had submitted a report to the games committee who now should deal with Laqai’s case.

Nadroga Rugby Union team manager Apakuki Tuitavua said this had been a learning process for them.

Tuitavua claimed they only received a letter from Rugby House on Saturday at 11am to not to field Laqai, who was named to play against Suva.

“It has not been easy for Nadroga, but it has not also deterred the spirit of the players instead it has only strengthened their bond to do the talking on the rugby pitch,” Tuitavua said.

Times Sport has been reliably informed that once a player is cited and a report has been received from the citing commissioner, the player would be stood down until his case is heard by the jury.

The player being cited would not be able to play until a decision by the jury is made, this was also the reason Laqai was asked not to play last weekend and would need to await his hearing before he would know his fate for this season’s provincial rugby competition.
