LAMI High School is basking in the glory of divine intervention as it progresses to the final of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans competition.

The minnows defeated Ratu Navula College 13-10 in a hard-fought under-19 semi-final battle to book their place in the final this weekend.

The win came at the back of a tough week for Lami with four of its players under the spotlight for certain allegations against their age and their enrolment at the school.

“We can only give the glory and honour back to God for giving us the strength to fulfil our goals and for the level that we have reached,” assistant coach Nemani Savomiramira stated.

“Ratu Navula was leading 10-6 with only four minutes remaining, I challenged the boys to remember why we are playing to maintain the belief that we can come out as winners.”

While the allegations may have tainted their image, the team and its management remained rooted in their truth and the goal of giving their young guns a pathway for a better life through rugby.

“We really take pride in God who has been the main pillar of our team,” Savomiramira added.

Lami will face its toughest opponent yet in Queen Victoria School for the ultimate prize on Saturday.

QVS had a gruelling battle against Naitasiri Secondary School in the semis where they were tied 24-all at the final whistle.

Matavatucou was awarded the win as they had scored more tries (4). Naitasiri scored three.
