Lal joins bowling squad

FORMER world number three Ratish Lal is back in the frame trailing for a spot in the national side for the 2016 World Bowls Championship in New Zealand from November 29 to December 12.

The Suva based taxi proprietor missed the first trials because of sickness but impressed at the second trials at the Nadi Sports & Social Club greens last weekend to force his way into the ten-member men’s training squad.

Fiji men’s team manager Curtis Mar said Lal boasts a wealth of experience.

Mar said the men’s squad would be further reduced after the third trials this weekend. “After this weekend’s trials, the men’s squad will be reduced to eight,” he said.

“The women’s squad will remain at eight. There will be more trials in July before the final squad is named.”

Lal last represented Fiji at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014. The 53-year-old said he would give his best shot at getting back into the national side.

Meanwhile, the third trials will start at the Nadi Sports & Social Club at 10am this Saturday.
