The Labasa women’s football side pulled off an impressive victory yesterday after thrashing Suva 11-0 in the Digicel Fiji Women’s Super League competition at the Fiji Football Academy in Suva.
Assistant captain Adi Elisabeta Vulitikoro said she was extremely happy with how the side performed yesterday against the capital city side, and vowed the team will only return stronger in the next round of the competition.
“The girls gave their best today and we were able to walk away with a win.
“Travelling from afar for this competition was worth it because of the impressive win we were able to secure today,” the 21-year-old said.
The Macuata lass said while the victory was sweet, a lot of sacrifices and hard work had been invested into being able to perform at their best.
“Training has been a challenge for the team because half of the side lives in Labasa while the other half lives here in Viti Levu.”
“And also, most of the girls are in high school and it’s tough for all of us to be training together.”
Looking at their win over Suva, Vulitikoro said she believed the side could have performed better than they did yesterday.
“We could have put in more goals; we just didn’t make use of all the opportunities that were presented to us so that will be something we have to work on.”
She listed passing as a major area the side needs to work on ahead of the next round, which is expected to be held this weekend.
“We need to improve the accuracy of our passing and ball control, apart from that, I think the girls did well.”
