Extra Supermarket Labasa FC will head into the semi-finals of the 2025 BiC Fiji FACT with renewed determination after suffering their first defeat of the season, surprise 2-1 loss to Nadroga FC in their final group stage match.
Despite the setback, the Babasiga Lions have shown grit and consistency under the guidance of head coach Alvin Chand, a schoolteacher by profession.
This marks Chand’s first semi-final appearance as a head coach in a major national tournament, and his structured, composed approach has earned praise across Fijian football circles.
“Yes, the loss was a wake-up call,” Chand admitted.
“But we take the lessons from it. What matters now is how we respond in the semi-final. The boys are focused and ready.”
Labasa’s semi-final clash will see them take on defending champion Paradise Seafood Supplies Lautoka FC, coached by Shivam Raj.
Lautoka is chasing a historic third consecutive Fiji FACT title, and Raj, known for his disciplined approach and tournament experience, will be keen to maintain his winning streak.
The match promises a thrilling encounter, with both sides carrying strong narratives into the clash, Labasa hungry to bounce back and reach their first final under Chand, and Lautoka determined to cement their dominance in the competition.
The first semi-final is scheduled for 2pm this Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, where fans are expected to turn out in numbers to witness what could be one of the most exciting matchups of the tournament.
