EXTRA Supermarket Labasa FC continued their dominant run in the Extra National Premier League with a resounding 4-1 victory over Lautoka at Churchill Park yesterday.

Despite an early goal from Lautoka’s towering striker, Saula Waqa, the Babasiga Lions quickly regrouped and launched a relentless attack. Solomon Islander Jimson Abana led the charge, scoring twice before halftime to give Labasa a crucial 2-1 lead.

Labasa intensified their assault in the second half, overwhelming Lautoka’s defence while shutting down the Sugar City side’s attacking threats. Lautoka squandered several golden opportunities, failing to capitalise on their chances.

Labasa’s substitutes played a decisive role in the final 20 minutes, injecting fresh energy into the attack. Rusiate Doidoi extended the lead with a clinical finish while 20-year-old Jone Lalagavesi sealed the victory with a fourth goal.

Labasa coach Alvin Chand praised his team’s resilience.

“I want to thank my players for their hard work. Lautoka scored first, but we responded brilliantly with two quick goals before halftime. This is our second win in the league, and the boys are doing well,” Chand said.

Despite the heavy defeat, Lautoka president Shalendra Prasad remained optimistic.

“We are still rebuilding, but there were positives to take from this game. We’ll shift our focus to the next match.”
