“I am always ready”.
This is what former national 7s rep Semi Kunatani declared when asked whether or not he would don the national jumper if asked to do so.
“I was once asked the same question and I have always said that I am always ready,” Kunatani highlighted.
He made these comments when approached by The Fiji Times at the end of the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s on the island of Vatulele recently.
Kunatani rose to prominence and became a household name in 7s rugby when former Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan named him in the national team in 2013, ultimately being dubbed “The Beast” for his captivating performances on the field.
While he has stated his willingness to become a part of the Fiji Airways men’s 7s team once more, he reiterated the urge he had in doing so.
“I will always have my hand raised (to join the team) and nothing is hard,” the flanker emphasised.
He made the remarks when asked if his ongoing participation in local 7s tournaments would help drive his chances of inclusion forward.
Kunatani was on the island with his team, the TEMC Warriors formerly known as Yamacia, where they became the tournament’s overall winner after they defeated Gold Coast Senibiau 34-5 in the cup final.
Meanwhile, the Olympic gold and Commonwealth Games silver medallist stated in an earlier interview he and his side plan to spend the Christmas and New Year break with their families before reconvening for more tournaments in the new year.
