The Papua New Guinea Kumuls will endeavour to retain possession of the ball tonight, as they face the Vodafone Fiji Bati team at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Rhyse Martin, the Kumuls captain shared those sentiments when asked what the side intended to do in order to hinder the Bati from avenging their loss to the side last year, where they were defeated 12-32 by the Kumuls in Port Moresby, PNG.

“We’re definitely just making sure that we’re holding the ball and getting through our sets,” Martin said.

“We know that if you don’t hold the ball, it’s going to be a hard day in the office (the field) and you probably won’t be able to hold on to that pressure, and we’ll eventually crack.”

With the side also wrapping up their training yesterday following their captain’s run, Martin maintains the side will keep to their game plan as they run out onto the field to face the Bati.

“I think just making sure we’re sticking to the game plan in our sets such as not giving the ball away too cheaply inside our own half, sticking to what we’ve been practicing all week and just a big focus on completion in the team.”

Meanwhile, he says the side is looking forward to their championship campaign opener against the Bati and has urged members of the PNG community in Fiji to come out in numbers and cheer them on at 8.10pm.
