Jaanvi Swaram Kumar has set her sights on pursuing studies in the field of medicine after winning the Dux Award at Tilak High School.
Ms Kumar is a Year 13 student at the Lautoka school.
She scored 384 out of 400 in her external examinations with a perfect 100 in mathematics, 89 in English, 99 in Chemistry, 97 in Physics and 92 in Biology.
“My preparations for the exams were okay since my parents have always encouraged me,” she said.
“At times I felt like giving up, but I think the road to success is never easy.”
Ms Kumar has an elder brother and sister to whom she dedicated her award along with her parents.
She plans to enroll at the Fiji National University and pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program.
“My advice to my juniors is to stay focused, work hard, never underestimate your strength, seek help when needed and, most importantly, believe in yourself.”
Upon completion of her MBBS, Ms Kumar aspires to contribute to medical research that advances understanding of diseases, improves treatments or develops new technologies.
