THE Fiji Women’s National Team (Kulas) preparations are on track as they gear up for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 OFC Qualifiers, which begin next week at Govind Park in Ba.

In a statement head coach Nicola Demaine said she was pleased with the progress made in a short period, noting the team is building a strong identity and culture heading into the tournament.

“I’m happy with the progress that we’ve made so far in the training program. We’ve had a short time to get things going, but we’re developing our culture and how we want it to be,” said Demaine.

“We’re starting to see the girls playing the tactics how we want them to play on the field.”

Demaine said recent training sessions have helped assess how much players have absorbed, while also ensuring they are physically prepared for tournament football.

“Today(yesterday) was a good session to see what they can remember from what we’ve done. There’s lots of stuff we can still work on, but we’ve got the basics together to make sure we’re ready for tournament.”

Fitness and speed have been a major focus for the Kulas, with noticeable improvements already showing in camp.

“We’ve been working on the fitness level because you’ve got a tournament, and we’ve definitely seen massive improvements in that. Today they had their sprint coach in for speed training, and we’re starting to see good development in their technique.”

The coach also confirmed the squad is largely injury-free.

“No injury concerns at the moment. A few little things here and there that we’re taking care of, but nothing serious, thank goodness.”

With competitive international matches scheduled just before the qualifiers, Demaine believes the timing is ideal for final preparations.
