Fiji Football star Roy Krishna believes the future of the sport in Fiji is bright, but it’s up to the next generation and local districts to seize the opportunity.
In a recent interview, the national team captain offered his insights on the state of Fijian football.
“Talent is good,” Krishna said.
While he praised the abundance of local talent, he has also called for more support for young, homegrown players.
“A lot of opportunities now for the young kids, and you can see at district level kids are getting opportunities, which is a good sign.”
He encouraged districts to look inward and support their own instead of relying on foreign players.
“I would say that maybe districts can support them, give them more opportunities other than getting players from abroad,” he stated.
Krishna, who has enjoyed a successful professional career abroad, sees a promising path forward, but he also knows that it’s a two-way street.
“The future is good; it’s up to the kids. If you get an opportunity, grab it with both hands because it may be your last chance.”
Krishna graced Subrail Park in Labasa during the pool stages of the 2025 Extra Battle of the Giants.
