There are more than 2200 businesses registered under the Care Fiji Commitment (CFC) to date, says Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism, and Transport Faiyaz Koya.

The Care Fiji Commitment (CFC) is a WHO-approved standard of best-practice health and safety measures for travel in a post-COVID world.

In his update to Parliament on the progress made by the tourism industry since the reopening of borders, Mr Koya said compared to December last year, this is a 26 per cent increase from the 1741 businesses that had registered under this initiative.

The Minister said they had also recorded 23,226 visitors received last December – 73.5 per cent of total arrivals for 2021.

He said 92 per cent of the total December arrivals were mainly from Fiji’s key source markets – Australia and the US.

“Our visitor numbers, Mr Speaker, in the last two months are indicative of how resilient the industry has been in solidifying for the reopening. While not everyone actually opened in December, the overwhelming majority of our stakeholders were ready to safely re-open,” Mr Koya said.

“The CFC has actually given us greater confidence to resume travel while ensuring the health and safety of our travellers remain paramount.”

Mr Koya said also in December, the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) collected the highest monthly revenue collection of $190million since Fiji’s first COVID-19 case in March 2020.
