After a distinguished stint in Fiji’s civil service, David Kolitagane will take up a new role as the country’s high commissioner to Australia.

Mr Kolitagane was the former permanent secretary for the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management.

Mr Kolitagane said in a statement both Fiji and Australia shared historical links and Fiji was forever grateful to “our vuvale” for their unwavering support to Fiji in times of great need.

He said the Vuvale Partnership would also be instrumental in the implementation of the “2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent”.

In his new role, Mr Kolitagane will be at the forefront of ensuring programs such as the Pacific Labour Mobility Scheme (PALM) continue to further enhance employment opportunities for Fijians.

Mr Kolitagane also reiterated that Fiji and Australia’s joint efforts on the Blackrock Camp would enable the unique regional humanitarian assistance and disaster relief centre to contribute immensely to regional humanitarian disaster responses in years to come.

He will work with his team and counterparts to strengthen collaboration between the two nations in the areas of health, education, tourism, trade and investment, labour mobility, sports, defence, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief among others.
