Koli Sewabu appointed new FRU CEO

The Fiji Rugby Union board has announced the aappointment of Koli Sewabu as the new Chief Executive Officer, following an independent selection process and a review of recommendations.

Speaking at a press conference today, Fiji Rugby Union chairman John Sanday said the board’s decision was based on SSewbu’s performance over the past six months while serving as Acting CEO.

“Following the completion of the independent process and careful consideration of the recommendations, the board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Koli Sewabu as the Chief Executive Officer of Fiji Rugby,” Sanday said.

He said Sewabu had demonstrated strong leadership qualities during his time in the role.

“His performance over the past six months as Acting CEO demonstrated strong leadership, sound judgment, and a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Fiji Rugby,” Sanday said.

“His appointment reflects the board’s confidence in his ability to lead the organisation forward.”

Sanday outlined Sewabu’s key priorities, which include governance reform, financial stability and rugby development nationwide.

“As CEO, Mr Sewabu will focus on strengthening governance, ensuring financial sustainability, supporting our national teams, and driving the development of rugby at all levels throughout our country,” he said.

The chairman also acknowledged other candidates who had expressed interest in the role.

“We commend them for their interest and for travelling long distances, and we wish them every success in their future endeavours,” Sanday said.

On behalf of the board, Sanday congratulated Sewabu and reaffirmed the board’s support.

“I congratulate Mr Sewabu on his appointment and assure him of our full support as he takes on this role,” he said.

“To our stakeholders, provincial unions, players, staff, sponsors and supporters, we thank you for your continued trust and commitment to Fiji Rugby.”
