PARA Athletics: A Journey of Perseverance
Team Fiji’s Para Athletics contingent has been an unsung hero to Team Fiji’s Athletics program. The athletes, who have overcome significant physical challenges, have shown incredible dedication and commitment to their sport.
At the 2023 Pacific Games, Team Fiji’s para-athletes secured two medals in the women’s javelin ambulant event, with Selina Sanday winning silver and Naibili Vatunisolo taking bronze. Both Naibili and Selina will join their male counterparts in adding medals to Team Fiji’s Medal Tally come the Pacific Mini Games. The Para Athletics team is made up of 6 athletes with Fred Fatiaki as coach and Kumon Tarawa as section manager.
Basketball 3×3: A Rising Force
Basketball 3×3 has been a constant game-changer for Fiji, with both the men’s and women’s teams making significant strides in recent years.
At the 2023 Pacific Games, the men’s team reached the final, narrowly losing to Guam by a single point.
The women’s team also put up a strong fight, finishing with a silver medal.
The team’s success can be attributed to the hard work of players like Joshua Fox and Keenan Hughes, who have shown exceptional skill and teamwork with Keenan making the team again for Palau.
A major milestone for 3×3 basketball in Oceania has been achieved as the Pacific Mini Games will now officially serve as both a FIBA 3×3 Nations League event and a Commonwealth Games qualifier for the region.
For the first time, the champion team per gender at the Pacific Mini Games will earn direct qualification to the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup, providing young Pacific athletes with an unprecedented opportunity to compete on the world stage.
Beach Volleyball: Waves of Success
Beach Volleyball has long been a popular sport in Fiji and the national team has consistently performed well on the international stage.
The team’s success is built on strong partnerships, strategic gameplay and a deep love for the sport. Team Fiji will be represented by a Men’s and Women’s team at Palau.
Triathlon: A Test of Endurance
Triathlon is a sport that demands exceptional physical and mental endurance and Team Fiji’s young triathletes have risen to the challenge.
The athletes have been training rigorously, preparing for the gruelling race that combines swimming, cycling and running.
With the support of their coaches, the triathletes are ready to give their best in upcoming competitions.
Siblings Thaddeus and Theola Kwong, will also be competing in Swimming in the first week of the Games, with the Triathlon events held in the last few days of the Games.
Meanwhile the 2025 FASANOC Lottery to assist Team Fiji raise valuable funds closes on 13 June and will be drawn on 25 June at Fiji Olympic House at 7.30pm after the Special General Meeting.
