EXTRA Bula FC were left to rue missed opportunities as they fell 2-0 to Solomon Kings in Melbourne, a result that did not fully reflect their improved second-half display during their OFC Professional League clash in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday.

Bula endured a difficult opening 45 minutes as the Kings controlled possession and dictated the tempo.

Jez Lofthouse broke the deadlock midway through the first half, finishing neatly after a slick attacking move.

The Kings threatened to extend their lead soon after, but Bula goalkeeper Phillip Mango reacted sharply to atone for a defensive misjudgment and keep his side within reach at the break.

Determined to respond, coach Stephane Auvray turned to his bench, introducing Roy Krishna, Fergus Gillion and Kaile Auvray to inject urgency into the attack.

The changes lifted Bula’s intensity, with Maikah Dau creating a promising opening and Yuta Konagaya forcing an excellent reflex save from Mango’s opposite number.

As Bula pushed forward in search of an equaliser, they were caught out late when Solomon were awarded a penalty following a challenge in the box.

Sota Higashide converted from the spot to double the advantage.

Despite 15 minutes of added time and a committed late surge, Bula could not find a breakthrough, leaving them frustrated but encouraged by their resilience heading into the next fixture.
