PORTSMOUTH Kelland Brothers rugby team from Narere is focused on retaining their title, as they gear up to take on Flick Hygiene Vatuwaqa in the quarter-finals of the Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby club competition this weekend. Head coach Avili Duwaqatabu exudes confidence in the team’s readiness for the upcoming quarter-final clash, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a strong performance against Vatuwaqa come Saturday.
“The boys are well prepared for this quarter final, and we will give Vatuwaqa are good game this Saturday,” said Duwaqatabu. “After the win last year plenty of our boys have left for jobs and we have recruited many of our young boys coming out of secondary school deans’ competition, and some of our senior players from last year to boost the team in this week quarterfinal.” He adds their strategy revolves around building a formidable team capable of overcoming the challenges posed by their opponents.
Duwaqatabu acknowledges the previous achievements of Flick Hygiene Vatuwaqa, particularly as holders of the prestigious Tui Suva Trophy, and emphasizes the importance of not underestimating
their formidable opponents “We will never underestimate Flick Vatuwaqa because they are the holder of the Tui Suva Trophy. “We will expect them to come out firing this weekend because we beat them in the quaterfinal last year.”
The team’s primary objective for this season is to bring the cup back to their home turf in Narere for the second consecutive year and build upon their success. “This year our goal is to retain that cup back to Narere (back-to-back) and we going to work on what we just learn during training and do the talking on the field.
“Without any sponsor the boys manage to overcome 10 rounds of competition, and we are ready for the game on Saturday.” The kick-off is set for 1.30pm at Assemblies of God High School in Suva on Saturday.
