NATIONAL football player Samuela Kautoga has joined Rewa in the player transfer window which opened on February 1.
Kautoga, who used to play for Ba, decided to join the Delta Tigers as they prepare for the 2017 OFC Champions League in Tahiti.
Rewa coach Marika Rodu said Kautoga would be an asset to the team.
“He is a good player and he has played on the weekend in his first match for Rewa against Nadi,” Rodu said.
“It will depend on him as how he will get adjusted to the side.
“He has a lot of experience and it is a contributing factor to the team.”
Kautoga has played for Lautoka in the OFC Champions League in 2011 and also featured for Labasa, Suva after making his debut for Navua in 2006.
He also played for the Amicale football club in Vanuatu.
“He is a utility player and can play anywhere in the field as he used to play in the forwards for the national team and then moved to defence for Suva and then in midfield for Ba last year,” he said.
“I think we will now work with the players which we have in the squad for the OFC Champions League. We will be playing three matches in Auckland as a buildup to the OCL which includes one against a team from the Solomon Islands and three teams from New Zealand.”
The Rewa team will depart for New Zealand on February 28. Meanwhile, former national coach Gurjit Singh and former national team player Tagi Vonolagi are also assisting Rodu in training.
