LUCKY charm Samuela Kautoga was the hero for Rewa after scoring the winning goal against Nadi in the 2017 Vodafone Fiji FACT final yesterday.
The 30-year-old Kautoga, one may not believe, but he has proven to be the lucky charm in the teams he had played in the past.
He helped Labasa win the 2011 IDC and the following year he was part of the Suva outfit that defeated Ba 1-0 in the 2012 IDC.
The former Vashist Muni College student made his debut for Navua in 2006 and later played for Lautoka and Labasa in the domestic competition before joining Amicale FC in Vanuatu.
Upon his return, he joined Suva.
He also spent some time with the Men in Black team from Ba before switching to Rewa where he also played in the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League.
Kautoga said he scored the first winning goal to help any team win the tournament.
“It was my first tournament for them and I feel so proud to win the first tournament with Rewa. The players had put in a lot of hard work and sacrifices in order to achieve this win for the fans,” he said.
Kautoga was also the player of the tournament with his outstanding performance.
“Footballers are always judged on their performance on the field and if you are in good shape then all the district will want you and if you are not then you will not be selected,” he added.
“I did my best at training sessions and proved my worth to the fans with the support of young players.
