DEFENDING championship Kamil College fought with a player down to beat arch rivals Saraswati College 1-0 during the Courts Inter-District Championship secondary schools division in Ba yesterday.
Kamil College is chasing a rare double having already bagged the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Championship title in August.
The side lost Josaia Tuwai early after his dismissal in the first half.
With Fiji under-23 goalkeeper Misiwani Nairube marshalling his men from the back, Kamil College managed to score the lone goal through Asikinasa Lacanivalu in the second spell.
Saraswati College included Bruce Hughes and Ratu Lino who are part of the Rewa squad and Fiji U20 squad member Arami Volavola.
Kamil College coach Azam Ali said it was always going to be a tough match.
Ali said they had to reorganise their defence after the red card.
“We were down by a player from the first half,” he said.
“We organised our defence then opted to go on the counter attack. But we still had enough to get a win.”
Ali said they were still trying to secure the services of their star player Ruel Grayven.
“The biggest vacuum is that we do not have our best player Ruel,” he said.
“We are still waiting for his International Transfer Certificate from the Solomon Islands. Ruel was the best player during the Fiji Secondary Schools Championship.”
In another match, Natabua High School defeated Nadi Muslim College 3-0.
