Former Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica says it is entirely up to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka whether he returns to Cabinet following his acquittal by the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Speaking to the media outside court after the magistrate ruled he had no case to answer, Kamikamica said he remained committed to serving Fiji in whatever capacity he was asked.
“As far as I’m concerned, that’s up to the Honourable Prime Minister. It’s got nothing to do with me,” he said when asked whether he would seek the return of his ministerial portfolio.
Kamikamica said he had stepped aside when the charges were filed and was now focused on his current role as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.
“I did what I had to do when the charges came up. So I’m quite happy at the moment doing the Public Accounts chairmanship work. We are doing a lot of good things there.”
He said his priority had always been serving the country rather than holding office.
“As you know, I joined this role to serve our country, and whatever the Honourable Prime Minister has in store, I will accept that with grace and humility.”
Kamikamica also expressed relief at the outcome of the court proceedings, saying he believed justice had prevailed.
“Right now, I’m just so relieved that justice was served today.”
He said he hoped the ruling would strengthen public confidence and allow the country to focus on the future.
“Hopefully, it puts a lot of confidence in some of the things that people are saying and people are doing, and we can continue to move forward as a country. There’s a lot to do.”
