Kamikamica cites abuse in Walesi report

A GOVERNMENT investigation into Walesi found allegations of abuse of office and procedures not being followed, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica says.

Mr Kamikamica said the findings had raised concerns over the way some matters were handled and whether money had been properly used.

“There was some abuse of office, as far as I’m concerned, in the report. Abuse of office and procedures not followed.”

He said the findings had been referred to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), which would need to verify the allegations.

He said FICAC should follow through with the findings and establish whether the concerns raised in the report were correct and whether allegations of wrongdoing occurred.

He also raised concerns about the use of public funds in the process.

“There’s quite a bit of money that was probably not properly used in the process.”
