DEPUTY Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica says senior lawyer Sevuloni Valenitabua’s experience and contribution as chairman of the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) will serve Fiji well in his new role as acting Attorney-General.

Mr Valenitabua was sworn into the position on Tuesday after stepping down from the CRC, as the Government prepares for key constitutional and electoral milestones.

He said the Government had consulted extensively with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka before settling on Mr Valenitabua for the position.

“We have canvassed broadly with the honourable Prime Minister,” Mr Kamikamica said.

He described Mr Valenitabua as a well-known and respected senior lawyer whose qualifications and professional experience made him suitable for the role.

Mr Kamikamica said Fiji would require substantial legal advice as it moved towards the final stages of the constitutional review process and prepared for the 2027 General Election.

He expressed confidence that the appointment would provide the legal expertise needed to guide the Government through the important constitutional and electoral processes ahead.
