Jean Luc Kalowia of Church College of Fiji bolted across the tracks yesterday to win the senior boys 200m final of the Coca-Cola Games Suva Zone One athletics meet at the HFC Bank Stadium.

Kalowia faced competition from Ratu Sukuna Memorial School in the centre of the track however he dashed at a definitive pace to cross the finish line first.

Over the moon with his win yesterday and scooping the blue ribbon title on Thursday, he described how pleased he was with his efforts.

“I feel so happy and blessed that I had the chance to win this blue ribbon title and also the 200m title,” Kalowia told Times Sport.

At the time, he only had one event left to participate in, the senior boys 4x100m and he said he was ready to do more in that race.

Getting to the point where he was victorious in his solo efforts twice meant putting in the hard yards, which he described as a tough process however the words of his coach kept him going.

“He always kept telling me that if I wanted to achieve something or my goals, I needed to work hard for it,” he recalled.

Another guiding star for him was his sense of confidence and the belief that if he told myself he could achieve it, then it was possible.

He was also very appreciative of the support he received from his coaches, school mates, family, friends and relatives back home in Vanuatu.

Kalowia is originally from Paunagisu on the island of Efate in Vanuatu.

This is his third year of living in Fiji and also his second year of participating in athletics with Church College of Fiji, formerly known as LDS College.
