Sevens icon Waisale Serevi urges students to uphold four key values, stay strong, say no to drugs, leave no one behind, and speak up when something is wrong.
Today, as students lace up their rugby boots to participate in the 2025 Vodafone Fiji Kaji/Kajiana Rugby competition, Serevi’s words will echo in their minds.
The competition will feature a total of 1,400 Kaji boys and 840 Kajiana girls in the under-13 and 14 grades.
During the launch of the Vodafone Kaji Nationals last month, Serevi highlighted that dreams of becoming a Fijiana or Flying Fijians are nurtured and shaped during primary school, not just when students reach secondary school.
He believes that hard work and dedication are essential to transforming these dreams into reality.
“This is a crucial phase of development, this is where a stage where dreams begin, where the hard work towards that dream becoming a reality,” said Serevi.
Serevi encourages the children participating in the national meet to enjoy themselves and to represent their teams with pride.
“Rugby will shape you in every way, it builds your body to be strong. It sharpens your mind to think clearly.
The rugby legend emphasises the values of teamwork and community, encouraging players to support their teammates, families, and communities.
He emphasises the importance of trust in oneself and in a higher power to navigate challenges and emerge stronger.
“It teaches you to be local to your teammates, your family and to your community and it strengthens your spirit to trust in God.
The competition will be held at the HFC Bank Stadium today and will conclude on Thursday.
