KADAVU’S recent rugby success has been accredited to the Vueti Kadavu initiative according to Fiji Ruby Union interim CEO Koli Sewabu.

“A couple of years ago a couple of high-level officials from Kadavu and our rugby community came up with an imitative called Vueti Kadavu and it includes sports and rugby as tools for development.

“And it’s great to see them now in the finals of the Vanua Cup and not only that they are going to the Skipper Cup next year,” Sewabu said.

He said it would be an exciting opportunity for the players to be exposed to a higher level of competition.

Meanwhile, Fiji Rugby will be conducting a review on the current format of all domestic competitions to see how the tournament could be improved while aligning it to the global tournaments happening in the upcoming months.

Many teams are now showing interest in the Vanua Cup but Sewabu stated that their financial status would determine any plans for expansion.

“I know there’s a lot of teams wanting to enter the Vanua competition, but our commercial team will be working hard over the next months to see if we can secure further sponsorships, to cater for the demand of teams wanting to play in the competition.”

This will also be part of Fiji Rugby’s review to develop the domestic competitions.

Meanwhile, Kadavu won the Vodafone Vanua Trophy last Saturday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka after beating Navosa in the final 23-17.

Navosa, like Kadavu, has also been promoted to the Skipper Cup next year after defeating Rewa 34-26 in the semi-final last Tuesday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

It will be Kadavu’s second appearance in the premier provincial competition and Navosa’s first.
