KADAVU women’s rugby team made history by winning their first-ever Pio Bosco Trophy after defeating Nasinu with a score of 37-31 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

This victory is especially significant as the team made its debut in the Marama competition this year.

From the start, Kadavu displayed dominance on the field, taking a commanding 24-5 lead in the first half.

Their performance was marked by discipline at the breakdown, powerful collisions, and accurate play in the wide areas.

Despite the defending champions, Nasinu, mounting a fierce comeback in the second half and narrowing the gap, Kadavu maintained their composure and ultimately secured the win.

Team manager Paulina Ratuwara expressed gratitude to a higher power for providing the team with the strength to achieve this victory.

“First of all, I like to thank the almighty for giving us the strength, for us to get this win today (yesterday),” said Ratuwara.

“The girls really prepared well for this match, it was a long week of preparation, proud of the girls’ achievements.

She commended the players for their dedication and preparation leading up to the match, attributing their success to hard work and perseverance.

Ratuwara acknowledged Nasinu as a formidable opponent and emphasized the importance of not underestimating any team.

“This is a big achievement for the team, coming in as a new team and underdogs, we didn’t underestimate any team, we took every game one game at a time.

“Nasinu is a tough side, they held the Trophy for a long time, and getting to win it is history for the team.”

Reflecting on the significance of this win, Ratuwara highlighted the team’s determination to learn from their mistakes and continue to improve.

She thanked the players, parents, and supporters for their unwavering dedication and support throughout the season, emphasised that this victory was a collective effort.
