FLANKER Etonia Waqa played a grand game in the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s first win of the season at the fortress in Lautoka.
While the Drua only managed 50 percent success in the lineout, he had a hand in disrupting Hurricanes’ lineout, winning crucial possession.
He won four lineouts for the Drua, and area that remained functional despite the rain and wey weather conditions.
His performance was capped off with a try in the 66th minute before being subbed by Vilive Miramira three minutes later.
Noteably this was also the Kadavu man’s first game of the season.
“This is my first game back and he (Glen Jackson) thanked me for staying in there and not giving up,” Waqa said when asked about what head coach Glen Jackson told him after the match.
After recovering from a long-term injury, coach Glen Jackson planned to have him play at least the first 40 but they managed to sneak in an extra 20 which paid off dearly.
“Eto is a quality man, quality player,” Jackson said.
“It’s tough for our boys when they come back from injury so we trust and believe that our players can do it and Eto showed the class he had.”
Jackson also indicated that unlike the first two games, the Drua played the full 80 this time around.
