IT was a moment of immense joy and celebration for the Kadavu families residing in Suva as they gathered to rejoice in the success of their rugby team at their recent Vanua Cup 2025 win.
The atmosphere at John Wesley College in Suva was vibrant, with over 100 individuals coming together for a festive celebration that included the traditional Vakacirisalusalu ceremony.
President of Kadavu Rugby, Lynda Tabuya, expressed her deep sense of honor at the community of Kadavu in Suva coming together to commemorate the victory of their men’s team in the Vanua Cup 2025.
“We are indeed honoured to the Vanua of Kadavu here in Suva to come together today, to celebrate the win of our men’s team, for the Vanua Cup 2025,” said Tabuya.
“It has only been our second year, since we established in 2023 Kadavu Rugby, and we are proud that just in our second year, we have been able to win the Vanua Cup.”
She adds adding to the pride of the Kadavu community was the success of their women’s team, who had won the Ranadi Cup the previous year.
“Our women’s team won the Ranadi Cup last year, in the first year they came in, and they just won the quarter finals against Nadroga today (yesterday), so they now advanced to the semi-final in the Marama Cup 2025.
“We are just really humbled that the Vanua of Kadavu in Suva, have come together, all our chiefs are here from the nine districts especially our four main chiefs from Tavuki, Naceva, Nabukelevu, and Nakasaleka, those are our four zones that Kadavu Rugby is organised in.”
As the celebrations continued, plans were made to take the team to Tavuki village on Monday night, with the support of Goundar Shipping in transporting the players and the trophy.
All were invited to join in the festivities in Kadavu, showcasing the deep connection and pride that the community holds for their homeland and the success of their rugby team.
