Kabara etched its name in Cricket Fiji’s history books after winning the first ever Super 8 tournament title.

The side stunned Suva by two wickets in the final at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

Travelled all the way from their village with a relatively young team, Kabara chased the Capital City side’s 224 runs and captain Aminiasi Tadu hit a six to bring a close to the game with 226 runs.

Kabara had just won its first-ever National Easter Cricket tournament title in April and has backed it up with championship shield four months later.

The win was made even sweeter when three of their youngsters was selected for the national men’s team that will represent Fiji at the world cup qualifier in Samoa.

“Preparation was tough, there was 20 of us initially and our coaches had set out strict camping rules. Some of our teammates broke camp and had to be dropped leaving only 14 dedicated players to represent our team in this tournament,” captain Tadu stated.

The team spent two weeks in Suva before the tournament.

“We want to thank our relatives and families in Suva for their continuous support. We know that life in the city is not easy because everything requires money but our families stood up to the challenge to look after us in our two weeks stay and during the past four days that we have been playing.

“This win is for them,” Tadu added.

The three players selected for the national team will stay back in Suva in preparation for the qualifiers while the rest will leave in a week’s time.
