Former Telecom Fiji Ltd (TFL) and Amalgamated Telecom Holdings (ATH) board member Sanjay Kaba has pleaded not guilty to a criminal charge.
Mr Kaba is facing a count of obtaining a financial advantage before Magistrate Charles Ratakele at the Suva Magistrate’s Court.
According to the amended particulars of offence, Mr Kaba, while being a board member of TFL and ATH, used information and influence obtained by virtue of his position to procure the submission of a tender through his company, Houng Lee Kaba Jacob Ltd (HLK Jacob), for project management services in relation to TFL’s new office and data centre project.
It is alleged that as a result, Mr Kaba obtained $766,327.22 between June 2022 and July 2023, knowing or believing that HLK Jacob was not eligible to receive that financial advantage.
The trial was scheduled to commence yesterday afternoon; however, Magistrate Charles Ratakele informed the parties that a directive from the Chief Justice and Chief Registrar required court staff to return home due to adverse weather conditions.
The trial will now commence on April 9.
