A 16-year-old juvenile who raped his 13-year-old cousin in Tailevu has been given a custodial term of 10 months 20 days, which has been suspended for 3 years effective from 28 May 2025.
The incident took place in October last year.
Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu said in his May 28 ruling the juvenile must refrain from watching pornography via electronic and non-electronic means including documents.
“The juvenile must not be left alone in a supervisory capacity or otherwise with a female and male child. The parents of the juvenile are to strictly supervise him on this regard, said the judge.
“The juvenile must remain living with his parents, follow and obey them always, and to ensure that he complies entirely with this Court’s orders.
The judge ordered the juvenile is to continue being counselled by the Social Welfare Department in the presence of his father and mother for purposes of helping him to avoid being in conflict with the law.
“The parents of the juvenile are to ensure that he complies with all instructions and directives provided by the Social Welfare Department.”
The court ordered the juvenile must not dropout from the agriculture vocational programme he is attending at a college.
