CONCERNS over delayed justice and domestic violence cases are under increasing scrutiny, with Government promising reforms.
Ministry of Justice Permanent Secretary Selina Kuruleca said some cases were taking more than two years to be resolved.
“That is true, and it has been highlighted in more than one report,” she said.
Ms Kuruleca said delays were largely caused by manual processes, where files must physically move between offices.
She said efforts were in progress to digitise systems and improve case management.
“We are working with the courts, police, Fiji Corrections, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Legal Aid Commission to improve access and follow-up.”
Meanwhile, she said there were also concerns that some domestic violence complaints were not taken seriously.
“If women have such concerns, they should report them. They can come to the Ministry of Women or the Ministry of Justice, and we will ensure proper processes are followed.”
She said there was a need to review the process.
