The High Court in Suva is expecting comprehensive submissions from parties involved in criminal proceedings against former deputy prime minister Manoa Kamikamica.

Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull said this after fixing Mr Kamikamica’s application for a permanent stay of proceedings to March 25, 2026.

Mr Kamikamica is facing a count of perjury where he is alleged to have knowingly made a false statement under oath, claiming that he had nothing to do with the appointment of former FICAC Commissioner, Barbara Malimali.

He also faces a charge of giving false information to a public servant for allegedly providing the same false information to a Commissioner of Inquiry (COI). The incident is alleged to have occurred between December 1 last year and March 31 this year.

Meanwhile, his lawyer Wylie Clarke had earlier suggested that both his client, and former deputy prime minister and minister of finance, Professor Biman Prasad’s permanent stay applications be heard together.

This was on the basis that both applications have similar issues regarding the validity of Acting FICAC Commissioner Lavi Rokoika’s appointment.

Mr Clarke informed the court that Prof Prasad’s case was before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere in Suva.

The case has been adjourned to February 5 for mention.
