THE High Court in Lautoka yesterday adjourned a case of three individuals accused of importing nearly half a tonne of methamphetamine.
This, after the State requested additional time to obtain transcribed versions of their caution interviews.
Chan Mooi Sing, Kalokalo Mataunidilo, and Mereanj Canisiga appeared before Justice Sunil Sharma yesterday, facing joint charges of unlawful importation and possession of 491.6 kilograms of meth.
It is alleged the illicit consignment arrived on January 6 on a flight from Malaysia through Singapore.
State lawyer Laisiasa Baleilevuka told the court that transcribed records of the caution interviews conducted with the accused remained pending.
He sought further time to finalise the transcripts and serve them on the defence.
Defence lawyer Mosese Naivalu, representing Ms Sing, raised no objection to the State’s requests, but told the court his client was developing a fever and sought leave to visit a hospital.
Addressing the oral application, Justice Sharma said the Women’s Remand Centre at Natabua had sufficient medical personnel to attend to inmates.
He said inmates must follow standard facility protocol by informing the officer on duty.
Justice Sharma adjourned the matter to August 26 for mention.
