Josua’s 7s selection

THE selection of Josua Vici in the Fiji 7s team for Las Vegas by Ben Ryan has come as no surprise for Uluinakau 7s coach Josevata Bola.

The former Naitasiri Highlanders and Northland Rugby fullback said for only two tournaments that he has coached Vici in — at the Mokani 7s and the Coral Coast 7s — the 21-year-old showed promise.

“He is originally from Niudua, Naceva in Kadavu and only came to join Uluinakau team before the Mokani 7s last this year.

“He is one player that always gives 100 per cent in his training and does the same when he plays.

“It was no surprise to us that he would definitely be in Ben Ryan’s team because he has very good work ethics,” Bola said.

With maternal links to Soa, Ra, Vici attended Lelean Memorial School from Year 7 to Year 12 before joining Wainibuka High School to complete his Year 12.

“He played for Tailevu U20 last year and in the last few games of the Provincial competition he was pulled up to the senior grade.

“Today, we congratulate him and wish him well,” Bola added.

Vici was one of the two new players named by Ryan for doing well in training.

He was named alongside Masivesi Dakuwaqa as the two to make their debut in Las Vegas.

“Josh and Masi have been outstanding the last few weeks, giving us some going forward in the field as and out in Josh’s case,” Ryan said.

Ryan, in naming the team said everyone had been looking forward to the two tournaments of the next leg in Vegas and Vancouver. The USA 7s in Vegas is from March 4-6.
