Cyber attacks and scams are of key concern to the Fiji Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) as a number of financial institutions and members of the public can fall victim to such threats.
FIU director Razim Buksh said they had a good group of stakeholders who were trained to deal with such situations.
“We have had some incidences of malware attacks but if there’s a full blown malware attack orchestrated by foreign cyber criminals, are we ready at policy, institutional level to handle the side effects of any malware, ransomware attacks?
“We have already a good stakeholder framework which we have identified, we have a whole spectrum of regional institutions plus our own financial services and telco service providers, including the academia and Government agencies such as Ministry of Communications as the lead agency so to say.”
He said they also worked with agencies such as the Fiji Police Force, Ministry of Defense, the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC), Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Solicitor General’s Office etcetera to join hands and look at cyber security and development of a cyber-security strategy.
