John Travolta says the gay affair accusation that was made against him was motivated by “money”.
The Grease actor’s former pilot Douglas Gotterba claimed the pair had been engaged in a homosexual affair while he was in his employment behind his wife Kelly Preston’s back.
Gotterba worked for Travolta’s aircraft company, Alto, for six years before voluntarily leaving in 1987, and the two are currently involved in a legal dispute about the claim.
The Hollywood star is adamant the allegation is without merit and believes it is motivated by cash.
Speaking to The Daily Beast, he said: “This is every celebrity’s Achilles heel. It’s just about people wanting money. That’s all. It happens on many levels. Also, I don’t care that much about it. Other people may attack it back more than I do, but I let all the media stuff go a long time ago because I can’t control it. I think that’s why it persists, to some degree.”
Travolta insists he is relatively unaffected by the accusation and other rumours that circulate about his private life.
He insists the only public speculation that has ever bothered him during his career were some of the reports in the wake of the death of his 16-year-old son Jett — who passed away after suffering a seizure during a family holiday in the Bahamas in January 2009.
Travolta, 60, said: “I found it most offensive with the loss of my son. I felt like that was the lowest I’d ever felt. Sex stuff is always going to be interesting to somebody, but you stay away from family. You really should. With that, I always felt like the media — not all of the media, but parts of it — went too low there.”
