Exceptional work ethic has paid off for Jethro Rinakama, says mum Davila Rabuno.

The Rinakama family is still trying to come to terms with Jethro’s inclusion in the Vodafone Fiji Bati side for the 2024 Pacific Championships later this month.

He is the son of former Naitasiri and Fiji 15s backline utility Adriu Rinakama.

At just 18 years old, Jethro Rinakama is gearing up to make his international debut for the Fiji Bati in the 2024 Pacific Championships later this month.

Jethro’s mother Davila said they were very proud of him.

“He’s dedicated to his game and has an exceptional work ethic,” she said.

Rinakama is part of a talented and strong Vodafone-sponsored squad, which includes seasoned players like Michael Jennings, Tui Kamikamica, and Viliame Kikau.

Bulldogs player Kikau, Kitione Kautoga, Penioni Tagituimua and Rinakama will represent Fiji in this year’s Pacific Bowl.

Rinakama recently helped the Bulldogs secure their second consecutive Jersey Flegg Cup title.

Rinakama’s rapid rise in the rugby league world has earned him a spot in the squad, as he is set to proudly represent his country at one of the Pacific region’s premier rugby league events.

“I am thankful to God and to the coaching staff for their faith in him. I knew he would make it because of his hard work and discipline.”

Adriu said Jethro was always humble and quiet.

“He doesn’t go out much, but he’s fully committed to rugby league,” Adriu said.

“Being just 18, I’ve encouraged him to enjoy the moment and learn from the experienced players around him.”

Jethro’s mother Davila said they were very proud of him.

“He’s dedicated to his game and has an exceptional work ethic,” she said.

“We are grateful to the selectors, to his Canterbury Bulldogs club and team, to all those who have supported him in his journey, to his family, and to his grandfather and namesake, Ratu Esira Rabuno, who passed away earlier this year.”
