While most teenagers were out enjoying their school holidays, sixteen-year-old Jasvil Rokoro was hard at work on New Year’s Eve, honing her cricket skills at the Albert Park grounds in preparation for the upcoming U19 national trials.
The Bemana-Navosa lass comes from a proud cricketing family and started off as a water girl for her parents’ cricket club.
It wasn’t long before she played her first match and has since become a household name in Fiji’s cricket landscape.
Despite her young age, Rokoro has represented Fiji in both the senior women’s team and the U19 team.
“In 2024 I went to Bali as part of the U19 Fiji team, and then earlier this year (2025) I joined the senior women’s team. We went to New Caledonia and then hosted another tournament here in Fiji,” she said.
As she prepares for the upcoming U19 national trials, Rokoro has set some clear objectives for herself within the team.
“As one of the senior players for the U19, my goal is to learn as much as I can so that I can inspire my team, but also I will look to them to help me and show me where I can become better as a player,” she explained.
Despite cricket being a minor sport in the country, Rokoro hopes to become a professional cricket player in the future and secure a contract overseas.
