The Government of Japan will provide $12.5 million to the Ministry of Local Government to strengthen waste management services nationwide.
The funding is being provided under Japan’s Economic and Social Development Programme (ESDP) and will support the procurement of essential waste management machinery and equipment.
The assistance will be formalised today through the signing of an Exchange of Notes between Isami Takada, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan to Fiji, and the Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa.
Under the grant, the Ministry will procure a range of waste management equipment, including dump trucks, compactor trucks, excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, backhoe loaders, wood chippers, ride-on mowers, and other critical tools.
Japan’s Economic and Social Development Programme supports developing countries by funding equipment and machinery that improve public services, strengthen infrastructure, and enhance national resilience.
