Former Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) vice president and current party member Anare Jale says he is seriously concerned about the future of the party as he believes it is being used to further the interests of dismissed Cabinet minister Aseri Radrodro.

Speaking to The Fiji Times, he said Mr Radrodro should receive Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s decision ‘like a man and not hide behind others to fend for him’.

Mr Radrodro was dismissed from Cabinet last Friday for insubordination and disobedience to Mr Rabuka’s directive that he reinstate the former chairperson of the Fiji National University (FNU) council and three other council members.

He had terminated the appointment of these members in May 2023. Mr Jale expressed the view that Mr Radrodro was acting in his own self interest. “I am seriously concerned about the future of SODELPA,” he said.

“If the party makes the wrong decision to play to Aseri’s tune, then the party is doomed and will die a natural death.

“I plead with all members of the management board to place the interest of the nation and SODELPA first and not the interest of an individual. Aseri should receive the Prime Minister’s decision like a man and not hide behind others to fend for him.

“The Prime Minister had exercised his prerogative under the Constitution of Fiji to remove Aseri and it will be a breach for anyone, including SODELPA, to be acting in defiance.”
